The University of Calgary is one of Canada's top higher education and research institutions with nearly 28,000 full-time equivalent students from almost 90 countries and 5,000 faculty and staff members. The university struggled to manage the 72 million pieces of paper it produces each year.
The University of Calgary's challenges included the need to:
- establish control, consistency, and access to information across 16 separate facilities and 100 departments
- provide a world-class student experience for a population projected to grow to 35,000 students by 2010
- transition from a paper-intensive educational environment to a digital one.

The Xerox team worked with the University of Calgary to implement Project IMAGinE; a strategic document management system and records management system. The solution focused on three main areas:
- manage documents from creation to output with Xerox Document Advisor Services
- assess, optimise and manage all print, copy, fax and scan devices, including other vendor equipment with Xerox Office Services
- centralise and streamline printing services with Xerox Document Production and Publishing Services.
|
The Xerox solution produced a number of key benefits for the University of Calgary:
- supported expected savings of approximately $13.8 million (CAN) over seven years
- upgraded multifunction technology across campus offices
- generated savings to support document management initiatives
- improved student and staff access to information, creating a superior academic experience.
